Root Addictions

After all the commotion and the dust settling, an era comes to an end. The death of Michael Jackson really made me think about addictions and what the actual root of the addiction is. As I wrote in an earlier article there are four root addictions which can lead to what we call current addictions.

Perhaps the lack of a childhood, the fame, the fortune and all the glory is what really killed him. Yes, as I write this it is just rumor that it was prescribed drugs. But what was the root of the addiction?

When we hear about people addicted to things, we might think to our self, this person must really be weak. It could be an obsession with drugs, sex, food disorder, etc… But myself, I start to analyze it as what went on in their childhood, what is going on in their life? The current addiction may be drugs, but what really happened in their life for them to start using drugs, be obsessed with sex, alcohol, OCD etc… Where were they mentally for it all to start happening.

These are not weak individuals, their people with something spiraling in their life, something that we may never see. I’ve wrote about depression and how we can do what I call circle the drain. Where it starts out as a very large slow circle but as more gets thrown at you, the faster you start to spin and the closer you move toward the bottom. Its a vortex reaction.

I talk about Balanced living and a healthy life but what happens behind closed doors is totally up to you. I don’t know what has happened in someones past. I only know what has went on in mine and it thrills me to know that I was strong enough and able to come out of it with flying colors.

I’ve surrounded myself with positive people and relationships. This makes life some what easier to get through without the addictions. We all have our demons, it’s how we cope with them and get past those demons that determines what the end result is.

I’m sure Michael Jackson is just one of Millions of people with underlying addictions but the problem is as society goes we focus in on the present addiction. Let’s stop and ask our self what the root of the addiction is before we make judgment.
